Essay: Arguments opposing my hypothesis on Abortion

Sample Essay

It can be argued that the very fabric of society is created by its people. And that the people are responsible for creating their own culture. Therefore, logically this culture would influence their actions, their lives and their thoughts and ideas. One of these ideas is that we have a judicial system created to fairly judge the best of us and the worst of us. That it represents the ethics and beliefs of the majority in our society.

In the landmark case of Roe V Wade it was argued that prior to viability of the foetus; the decision to opt for abortion is between the woman’s physician and herself. And the state only has a right to intervene in the pregnancy past the first trimester (Project, 2009).

If the ethics of our society are bound to our laws then logically it follows that abortion is not ethically wrong in our culture. Although the moral questions regarding the health and well being of the pregnant woman continue to persist. The fact that it is a woman’s right to decide what she can and cannot do with her own body is now recognized as a basic human right (Reiman, 1998).
